Residency in Crete

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

My two-week residency at the Mudhouse in Crete is imminent! I’ll be working on my NCTC commission. Now called “Laws of Attraction,” it’s an LGBTQ romantic comedy that satirizes the self-help industry. It’s an outgrowth of my original proposal for “Unavoidable Admissions,” which I discovered I could not write as a comedy … and, in fact, had trouble writing at …

Farewell, Bamboozled

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

The experience of writing and developing BAMBOOZLED was one of the most memorable, joyful, delightful, meaningful… all the “ful’s” except “awful,” that I’ve experienced to date in the theater. To have any one of the amazing cast members – Chelsea Bearce, Susan Jackson, Stacy Ross, and Jeunée Simon – in the cast, would have been quite a coup. To get …

I’m so excited to see this play come to life, directed by Gary Graves, and with Chelsea Bearce, Susan Jackson, Stacy Ross, and Jeunée Simon. In “Bamboozled,” Abby is a young appraiser touring with “Antiques Roadtrip.” She’s a black woman from L.A. traveling in the south—Shelby County, Tennessee. When she’s accused of defrauding a Daughter of the Confederacy out of …

“Believers” remounted in Istanbul

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

My play “Believers,” an apocalyptic romantic comedy about rigid beliefs being softened by love, is receiving a second production in Istanbul. The adaptation is called “Aşk, İlaçlar ve Yan Etkileri-Forte” (Love, Drugs, and Side Effects). The steampunk design is fun, and reflective of a dystopian future that has disrupted and destroyed all progress. The play runs through January.

Bamboozled to premiere at Central Works

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

I’m excited to announce that BAMBOOZLED is scheduled for a world premiere early next year in Berkeley, California. During the season announcement event, here’s what I said: Fact:  the US market for Confederate memorabilia is a billion-dollar business. I have always been fascinated by what we value, and what it costs us. That curiosity led me to research Confederate heirlooms …

It's Complicated

My NCTC Commission

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

I am tremendously proud and excited to have been commissioned by the New Conservatory Theatre Center (NCTC) to write a new play for their 2020/21 Season! NCTC was instrumental in launching my San Francisco Bay Area playwriting career when Artistic Director Ed Decker commissioned Andrew Black and me to write a gay murder mystery. Andy and I had a ball …

La Porte Peinte Residency

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

I’ve just spent two weeks as playwright-in-residence at Porte Peinte in Noyers sur Serein in the Chablis region of France. Beautiful, serene, and inspiring! Spent many hours working on a new adventure, “Late Night at the DHP,” a satire about government leaks, and rewrites of “Carpetbaggers.” Hosted by the gracious Michelle Dominique Anderson, La Porte Peinte Centre pour les Arts …
