Provocative Change

I’m in the middle of taking a workshop about setting up a routine. It’s been difficult for me to adjust to quarantine, and setting up a regular routine would be helpful, I think.

The technique on offer is one developed by Nick Kemp, founder of Provocative Changeworks. It’s practiced with a partner.

The best I can say is that it is a disruptive way of looking at personal change. One partner (A) asks, what’s the problem, and the other person (B) answers. Then, partner A responds in daft ways to the problem. Examples: A gives bad advice, misunderstand the problem, maximizes or minimizes the problem, interrupts, or acts bored. I’ve practiced this a few times and, while we generally have a good laugh, I’m not sure it’s having its desired effect!

I’ll check back in after I’ve done it a few more times. It’s disruptive, all right, but I’m unsure it’s effective.
