Fall promises to be busy and productive.
I will be an artist-in-residence at Arts, Letters + Numbers from September 1-15. That’s a wonderful residency in upstate New York, located outside Albany, in an old mill. I’ll be developing “Without Mercy” (working title), a play that looks at a family’s struggle over a decision regarding the murderer of a family member. The play deals with forgiveness, anger, justice, and the death penalty. Are some actions simply unforgivable?
“Solving Sunflowers” will be read at Paper Wing Theatre on September 11. This was one of my first plays, developed at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre with Gary Graves. It was a winner of the Eudora Welty New Play Festival and the EMCT Play Competition for plays set in New Mexico. Paper Wing is a scrappy, wonderful theatre in Monterey, CA, which champions new work.
I will be joining the Central Works Writers Workshop this fall to further develop “Without Mercy.” This play will be produced by Off Broadway West in the early months of 2017. I’m so looking forward to working with them! It’s a talented and respected company in San Francisco. I believe I’ve been with the Central Works Writers Workshop since 2008, which makes my tenure almost a decade. It’s truly a gift.
